Book based on Liverpool Business School shortlisted for award

A “compelling” new book by an LJMU academic, drawing on the experiences of Liverpool Business School, has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The Engaged Business School by Professor Anthony Sturgess is in the running for the inaugural Management Publication of the Year 2024 award.

The award represents a ‘first-of-its-kind collaboration’ between the British Academy of Management (BAM), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), and the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS). The award is described by CABS as "a new national prize recognising the UK’s leading voices in business and management.”

The book draws upon the experiences of Liverpool Business School navigating a path towards being more engaged. It explores a fundamental tension questioning whether engagement is fulfilling its potential or a thwarted ambition.

The book presents a compelling exploration of the intersection between academic research and business practice, offering a novel framework for enhancing the collaboration between business schools and industries.

Professor Anthony Sturgess said: “I am both delighted and honoured to be shortlisted for this award.  I hope the shortlisting is a timely recognition, not just because of what it reflects, but also what it might signal.

“The research in the book is shaped by colleagues, clients and communities reflecting the experiences of Liverpool Business School navigating a path towards being more engaged. But importantly I hope the shortlisting signals the potential for business schools to help shape a better future as the UK seeks to grow its economy in inclusive and sustainable ways that benefit society.”

The awards ceremony will be in early 2025 at the British Library.
