Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

After completing my BSc (Hons) in Children's Nursing in 2012, I began my clinical career as a staff nurse, gaining three years of experience across various hospital settings, including medical, surgical, accident and emergency, and special care baby units. I then transitioned to community nursing, spending three years as a school nurse before returning to university to complete a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing postgraduate degree in 2018. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for working with vulnerable families, focusing on improving the health and well-being of children and young people. I developed a strong interest in the teaching aspect of nursing, recognising its potential to create better outcomes for those we care for.

I have always had a great desire to teach and support both student nurses and colleagues within all teams I have worked in, in order to ensure the delivery of effective nursing to the people we support. I have always supported pre-registration nursing students and have been named link nurse in my last two nursing roles, as I am keen to empower student nurses to have a positive attitude to learning whilst out in practice, putting theory into practice, through developing effective learning environments with the aim of creating competent and compassionate nurses for the future.

Most recently, I worked as a Specialist Neurodevelopmental Practitioner within an ASD/ADHD assessment team, completing Level 7 master's modules in clinical examination, clinical diagnostics, and non-medical prescribing (V300). These qualifications helped me contribute to the development of a nurse-led paediatric ADHD service. My academic work reignited my love for learning and teaching, which further motivated me to transition into an educational role.

In early 2023, I joined Liverpool John Moores University as a lecturer in the children's nursing team. I teach across a variety of modules, both pre- and post-registration, and lead a child field-specific module. Additionally, I contribute to modules across all fields of nursing, sharing my knowledge and expertise. My key areas of teaching are specifically pre-registration nursing, non-medical prescribing and neurodevelopmental disorders.
