Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

I am registered adult nurse with 21 yrs Emergency Department experience and 10 years experience as a health care / support worker. I started my NHS career as a band 2 support worker and moved to academia after working as a band 7 shift leader and educational lead in a busy emergency department based on the Wirral.

The move to academia in November 2022 was a natural move for me because my interests have always included teaching others, enabling them to develop. I thoroughly enjoy my role as a senior lecturer in adult nursing, working across both pre-registration and post graduate programmes. I love supporting the students, especially those who doubt their own capabilities at the start and throughout the programme. Watching the students graduate gives us all a great sense of achievement and pride whilst offering the opportunity to meet family members who too have given support and encouragement over the course of the programme.

My teaching areas include Professionalism within nursing, clinical skills/simulation, learning in practice, Emergency care and Advanced Life Support (ALS).

I have an interest in working with school aged children to promote Nursing as a profession and have used this interest to speak to teenages who didn't believe they had the qualities or qualifications to seek this career path.
