I.D.E.A.S. Programme Prototyping Fund
£10,000 to turn your idea into reality
Extend the impact of your work beyond publications by creating a working prototype that can be adopted by industry, public services, or end users. A prototype demonstrates real-world value, making it easier to attract partners, secure further funding and see your research make a tangible difference.
If you have a clearly defined idea ready to prototype, apply to the I.D.E.A.S. Programme Prototyping Fund. This has been made possible by Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) which aims to accelerate research towards industry engagement and external funding.
How much funding you can apply for
The I.D.E.A.S. Programme Prototyping Fund will support up to 10 projects at £10,000 each, representing a total allocation of £100,000.
Expected deliverables
- A working prototype.
- A short demo video.
- A deployment guide with low-cost hosting plan.
- A two-page specification for partners and funders.
- Presentation of your prototype at a showcase where you’ll receive valuable feedback to strengthen your external bids and attract pilot partners.
For more details, please read the Prototyping Fund Governance Document (PDF, 162KB).
Who can apply
The fund is open to LJMU academic staff who:
- have a clearly defined, buildable idea (physical or digital) that requires a prototype and can be created in six to 10 weeks
- have already identified a delivery partner (vendor or internal team able to invoice)
- have access to the data, materials, or APIs needed
- need a demonstrator to meet funder requirements for larger bids
For more details, please read the Prototyping Fund Governance Document (PDF, 162KB).
