Work placements ranked Top 20 at LJMU

Liverpool John Moores University has been ranked 14th in the country for work placements and experience.

Each year thousands of our people boost their CVs by working with industry or the professions while studying for their degrees.

The quality of these experiences is judged by RateMyPlacement, an independent platform which each year selects the Best 50 Universities for Work Experience.

“To be ranked 14th in the UK is great news,” said Emma Robinson, head of work-based learning and enterprise at LJMU.

“The skills and experience gained by students often makes the difference when going for a job, and in many cases, the impression students give to their host employer can seal the deal there and then.

Experiences with industry vary from six weeks up to 12 months, helping boost CVs and shaping undergraduate career plans.

Melissa Milner, an Adult Nursing undergraduate, says she thoroughly enjoyed her placement at a housing association: "South Liverpool Homes was a really  positive, educational and informative placement for me. Working with them opened my eyes to how they help tenants with their well-being, and things like benefit support and employability. I thoroughly enjoyed it!"

Views like this were crucial to LJMU's ranking as RateMyPlacement is solely based on student-written reviews.

The LJMU careers service, called Student Futures, partners with work-based and placement learning units and specialist staff in each School of the university, to support students from to be confident, safe and well-supported in the workplace, with career advice, guidance and resources to help to reach their professional goals.

Added Emma: “Our thanks to our students for providing the feedback on our services, it is extremely rewarding to see how the support we have given them has made an impact on their professional career.

“Ranking this highly is also a tribute to all the hard work our team and our employer-partners put into ensuring students have excellent experiences.”
