Cost of living support for students

From financial support to discounts across campus, plus help and advice, find out about all the support on offer from LJMU and JMSU.

Student Support Fund

Over the last academic year 2022/2023, LJMU has committed over 2 million pounds to students facing financial hardship during the cost of living crisis.

The Money Advice Team can help any LJMU student facing financial hardship, with friendly advice and immediate assistance to cover food costs, bills, and give financial support.

Energy Cost Assistance is available to students who have to pay gas/electric bills.

Last year we helped 2854 students with support averaging around £711 per application.

Too Good to Go

Download the sustainability app ‘Too Good to Go’ app and get £12 worth of food for £4 from LJMU Core Cafés.

Community kitchen and hygiene product giveaways

You can now get free refreshments and snacks at your disposal from the JMSU Social Zones across our buildings.

Free menstrual products are also available in LJMU toilets across campus.

We'll also be giving out free home essentials like detergent, washing up liquid and shower gel this semester.

20% off food at Core Cafes

Use your student ID card to get 20% off at all our Core on Campus Cafes.

Warm and welcome campus

Our libraries have long opening hours and the Student Life Building is open 24/7 with free laptop loans available.

You can also charge your devices for free around campus.

Students can use showers in the Sport Building, even without gym membership.

Free recycled IT kit

Need a new piece of IT kit? LJMU has used and refurbished PC’s and laptops that students can apply for, for free.

Cook Together

We'll be hosting free lunches plus giving away food vouchers and recipes, to help you create some tasty nutritious food this semester and Cook Together.

Stationery offer

All students can pick up free stationery from the helpdesk in Aldham Robarts and Avril Robarts Libraries.

Gym membership for £20 a year

We’ve reduced the cost of a student gym membership, including classes, from £125 a year to £20, from now until 31 August 2024.

Council Tax

Remember the majority of full time LJMU students are exempt from paying council tax, it could save you over £1,000 a year.
