Tuition fee deposit for international students

Do I need to pay a deposit?

All self-funded international students are required to pay a deposit in order to receive a CAS.

Deposit deadlines

All deadlines can be found on the International application dates webpage.

How much is my deposit?

A deposit of £5,000 must be paid by all self-funded international students in order to get the CAS.

Pre-CAS students

Students who need to take a Pre-CAS interview are only required to pay a portion of the £5,000 deposit before their interview. Students must pay £1,000 of the deposit in advance. After you pass the interview, you'll need to pay the remaining £4,000 to receive your CAS (Certificate of Acceptance for Studies).

How much do I need to pay to enrol?

International students must pay an initial deposit of £5,000 plus the first instalment which is due before enrolment. A breakdown of instalments depending on the amount of scholarship received is detailed below.

Does LJMU offer a payment plan?

Students have the option to pay their fees in full or in three equal instalments minus any internal scholarships. The enrolment fee is due before enrolment. Please see the instalment plan page for further information.

International students who do not require a CAS

International students who already hold a valid UK immigration status and therefore do not require a Certificate of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) are not required to pay the standard international deposit.

However, you must pay 50% of your first-year tuition fees (minus any scholarship awarded) before you can enrol. This payment must be received no later than 21 August 2026.

If you would like to qualify for the £500 early payment discount or the enhanced scholarship, you must follow the international deposit payment deadlines published on our website.

How can I pay my deposit?

You can pay your initial deposit using our online payment system.

Read the how to pay guide.

If you choose to, you can pay more than the deposit amount required. If we receive more than the mandatory £5,000, the relevant amount will be detailed in your CAS letter.

If you have not yet paid your deposit to secure your place at LJMU, please watch this video guide on making the payment (with the lower exchange rate), using Flywire.

Please note:
LJMU encourages all applicants to pay their tuition fee and deposit payments via Flywire, as an easy, secure and trusted method of sending international payments.

What information must I include when paying my deposit?

When paying your deposit, please quote your LJMU Applicant ID number (this should begin with the number 9 or 10), as well as the month and year you will be starting at LJMU. For example, September 2026.

What are the next steps after I pay my deposit?

Having paid your deposit, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number will be produced. You can use this Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number to apply for your visa. Please note that CAS numbers can only be produced six months before the start date of the course as they expire beyond this length of time.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

You may not need to pay a deposit if you are:

  • a student who is sponsored by a Liverpool John Moores University recognised sponsor - you must provide appropriate evidence of official sponsorship
  • a student in receipt of a full-fee scholarship
  • a student in receipt of a US federal loan

I currently study in the UK with Study Group, Kaplan or NCUK. Should I pay a deposit?

All students coming from Study Group, NCUK or Kaplan arranged courses, need to pay a deposit to enter onto an LJMU course.

Can I get a refund?

Deposits will only be refunded to the person or body who paid the fee. You can request a refund using the International Deposit Refund Form.

A deposit can only be refunded back in the same way payment was received by the University, and to the same person who made the payment originally. If you are required to pay a deposit, this will also be outlined in the offer letter you received from the University.

Please see the links below for some helpful information regarding the Flywire Refund process.

When must I pay my deposit?

We request that you pay your deposit as soon as possible after getting an unconditional offer to allow enough time for the necessary visa processes.
