I am a registered architect. I joined Liverpool School of Art and Design at John Moores University in January 2020. My role includes teaching undergraduate design modules and structures curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate architecture. My teaching of structures develops the link between concept design and detailed design to support student learning about creation of the built environment: this links closely to my research which looks at designer behavior in architectural practice. Previously I was Lecturer in Architecture Technology at University of Salford (2018-2020) and Director of Technology for Birmingham School of Architecture and Design at Birmingham City University (2010-2018). The role at Birmingham involved an overview of the technical studies curriculum across all courses in the school (architecture, interiors, landscape and product design) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Before academia, I worked in architectural practice at John McAslan + Partners in Manchester, London and Doha (2003-2010) and at Simpson Haugh and Partners in Manchester (1996-2003).
