Beyond the city

Liverpool has always felt like somewhere on the threshold. We’re a city that’s always set our gaze to new horizons. To Ireland, the new world, to new adventures. It’s made us the cosmopolitan, maritime melting pot we are today. And that wanderlust has never left us. It’s why, three hundred years after our docks were chiseled, the city’s still the busiest port in the north of the UK. Why the soundtrack to any stroll around town is sure to feature more lilting accents and languages than the scoring at Eurovision.

But you don’t have to charter a supertanker to Shanghai to experience the freedom our edge-of-Atlantic position gives us. Liverpool’s well placed to explore some of the UK’s most enchanting corners too.

Within an easy couple of hours you can find yourself in the sublime landscape of the Lake District, with its craggy fells criss-crossed by hiking trails, and its lakes perfect for wild swimming expeditions.

Snowdonia’s brooding peaks are, quite simply, magnificent. This is Big Country: and if you’ve an appetite for adventure - from canyoning to quad biking, ice-climbing to horse-riding, we can think of nowhere better.

Inland, the Peak District’s above-ground beauty is matched, equally and oppositely, by its labyrinth of darkly beautiful cave systems. If you’ve the nerve, you really should take the plunge. It’s a whole new world down there.

Golf lovers will be particularly thrilled to discover that Liverpool sits at the heart of England’s Golf Coast - with a staggering 11 world-class courses to try. And, should crazy golf be more your style, the thrills and spills of Blackpool never fail to bring out the big kid in you.

So, while we’ve no doubt there’s more than enough to keep you busy in the city, it’s good to know we’re perfectly placed to enjoy the best of Britain’s beautiful landscapes too.

Let’s face it, it’s all about location, isn’t it?
