Ruth Slater is Head of Centre of Educational Leadership and part of the senior management team in the School of Education. She is an experienced executive educator, coach and leader having held senior leadership positions in both education and medical education. Ruth recently moved from the Business School to the School of Education after working within the Education Directorate at The Royal College of Physicians. She holds a Master’s in Advanced Educational Practice, a qualified MBTI Practitioner, a Certified Management and Business Educator and an affiliate member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. Ruth has designed and led national mentor training programmes for private and public sector clients across the UK. Her approach to post graduate education and leadership learning focuses on how to best apply current theories into daily practice that enable positive working environments for the wider workforce and to ultimately improve outcomes. Her current research interests and doctoral study draw upon the importance of peer coaching to support under-represented groups within the public sector as well as studying the components of ethical leadership and developing psychological safety across the workforce to ensure safer working practices and positive outcomes for all groups. She is currently part of a research team focusing on the impact of supported learning in executive education. Ruth is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
