Emily worked in Policing for ten years. She was a Police Officer with the Cheshire Constabulary; having worked within the Force Control Centre and in uniform roles, her experience is predominantly in Public Protection, where she worked as a Detective in various departments. During her time as a Detective, her specialism was investigating Child Abuse, for which she was accredited as a Specialist Investigator.

In 2018 & 2019, Emily was also a Lecturer at the University of Leeds School of Law, alongside her role as a Detective. In 2019, Emily left the Police and joined LJMU as a full-time member of staff.

Emily is the Programme Leader for the Degree Holder Entry Programme in Professional Policing Practice and is also a Lecturer within the School of Justice Studies.
