Dr Yongqiang Qiu is a Senior Lecturer in Sensor Technologies at the School of Engineering, Liverpool John Moores University. He received the BEng degree from Tianjin University, China, and both MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Dundee, UK. Prior to joining the LJMU, he worked as a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Dundee, and Visiting Scholar at the Pennsylvania State University, USA.
His research focuses are on the development of sensors, smart devices and IoT technologies for Healthcare and Industry 4.0 applications, and miniature acoustic/ultrasonic/piezoelectric devices for biomedical and industrial applications, including medical imaging & therapy, acoustic tweezing, NDT, structural health monitoring, and energy harvesting. He is also exploring large-scale fabrication methods and processes, such as nanofabrication, screen-printing, and 3D printing techniques, for the manufacture of transducers and sensors with ultra-high element density and IC integration compatibility. He is currently supervising six PhD students (two as the first supervisor and four as the co-supervisor), and more that 10 MSc and UG project students.
He is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (MIEEE) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is also a Topic Editor on the advisory panel of Micromachines (IF = 3.5), a guest editor for some special issues, and a peer reviewer for scientific journals, such as Ultrasonics, Sensors, Biosensors, Sensors & Actuators: A. Physical, Applied Physics Letters, PLOS ONE, Micromachines, IEEE TUFFC, and IEEE Sensors.
His group is always interested in motivated students. Prospective graduate students interested in joining the group are encouraged to contact Dr Qiu for research project proposals. Some competitive PhD scholarships and fees-only scholarships are available at the LJMU, which can be found on the below websites.
