Background

I began my nursing career in 2004 after successfully completing a DipHE in Adult Nursing. I worked as a qualified nurse for 20 years, working primarily within the surgical and critical care field. In 2015, I began my training as an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) within surgery and qualified in 2017 after completing my MSc in Advanced Practice. During that time, I cared for general surgical patients and played a key role in developing the Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit (SACU).

As I continued to grow as an ANP, I also further developed the SACU until I transitioned into education in 2021. Now, I work as a senior lecturer in Advanced Practice, contributing to the development of new modules within the MSc pathway while teaching and supporting students on their journey into advanced practice. In 2022, I took on the role of programme lead for the MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice programme. More recently, I’ve been involved in developing the new MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme, which launched in September 2024 and I continue to develop and lead on the development of LJMU postgraduate portfolio, alongside working in my role as postgraduate recruitment lead.
