I completed my Bsc in Nutritionial sciences at University College Cork in Southern Ireland. On graduation I worked for two years in industry, completing the nutritional analysis of dairy products, and working with stakeholders to improve the nutritional quality of the produce they supplied for market. In 2005 I moved to the UK to complete my MSc in Nutrition and Dietetics at University College Chester. On qualifying I worked in the dietetic department at the Royal University Hospital for 7 years specialising in renal dietetics. I enjoyed supporting patients with a chronic condition to feel empowered and make positive changes to their lifestyle that had a direct influence on their disease progression and quality of life. In 2013 I moved into a clinical education role supporting healthcare students (Nursing and Allied health) while in clinical practice. I loved my role as a practice education facilitator, ensuring learners were supported, received a quality learning experience and to be part of creating a robust, resilience skilled workforce of the future. In recent years I moved into a leadership role, I particularly enjoyed empowering staff to gain confidence in their skills and knowledge and be involved in strategic decision making within the organisation. I strongly belief everyone has something to offer and true leadership is uplifting others, so they are efficient and confident to actively promote and facilitate change and be instigators of innovative practice. I hope to create an environment through interprofessional learning, where learners demonstrate the application of theory to practice and become resilient and innovative, so they are equipped to be the leaders and shape services and meet workforce challenges of the future.
