Training police to the highest standards
LJMU continues to impact the quality of police training in England and Wales with a new partnership to co-deliver a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice.
Participants joining the Police Now National Graduate Leadership Programme or National Detective Programme from 2022 will complete their Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice with LJMU.
The programme is underpinned by the College of Policing’s Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF) Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP).
Police Now is an independent social enterprise, supported by the Home Office and works with over 30 forces throughout England and Wales to recruit highly competent graduates.
Trainee detectives
The partnership will sit within the School of Justice Studies under the auspices of the Professor of Policing Studies and Director of School, Daniel Silverstone.
Course assignments will draw on participants’ own experiences as trainee Police Constables or trainee Detective Constables and the impact they are having in their communities.
Kurtis Christoforides, Police Now Director of Policing & Home Affairs, said “We are greatly looking forward to working with Liverpool John Moores University, who bring a wealth of experience working on DHEP and other similar programmes, to co-deliver our Police Now training.
“Together we will assess participants to the highest standards to ensure they are equipped to drive our mission to transform communities, reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and increase the public’s confidence in the police.”
'Exciting time'
Professor Daniel Silverstone, Director of the Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing Studies, said: “We are a delighted to win this tender and to be working with Police Now. We are dedicated to transforming policing, increasing diversity in policing and assisting communities, so our mission is completely aligned with Police Now.
“It is an exciting time for an expanding police service and we look forward to working together to deliver the best possible educational experience for our shared students.”
