Green business scheme shortlisted by Times Higher
LJMU’s support for green business innovation – Clean Growth UK – has been nominated in the Times Higher Awards 2022.
We are one of three hubs for the project which helps business to create products and services which promote a greener, cleaner economy.
With more than 2,300 members, including large firms, SMEs and social enterprises, the projects’ impact has prompted the THE to shortlist it for Knowledge Exchange (KE) Initiative of the Year.
“We need rapid transformation in the economy to reach net zero and nature recovery goals and innovation is at the heart of the way forward,” explained project manager Tony Seasman, of the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment.
Academic experts
Clean Growth UK was launched in 2019 to unite businesses and universities to collaborate and accelerate green R&D, led by Brighton with hubs in Portsmouth and Liverpool.
CGUK is delivered by knowledge exchange teams who bring academic expertise and facilities to bear to help companies create climate solutions and grow the green economy.
Demand is growing for support to quantify carbon footprints and develop net zero plans and Clean Growth UK is the UK’s first service that takes organisations from carbon foot-printing and net zero planning through to innovating green products and services.
The service to date has delivered significant impact. Including 400+ innovation/KE projects, £25m+ value of innovation/KE projects, 260+ products and services and 720+ jobs
'Market pull'
The Times Higher praised the project for having an approach characterised by “market pull” rather than “research push”.
The 18th THE Awards recognise nominees across 20 categories with winners announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday 17 November 2022. See more about the award nominees (see Brighton).
