Expressions of interest welcomed for multiple Academic Board vacancies
The Secretariat is now seeking expressions of interest from eligible LJMU staff to serve on the Academic Board and to take up their roles in September in readiness for the start of the 2023/24 academic year.
There are a host of vacancies available, and expressions of interest are invited from staff who hold positions in the following areas of the institution:
- Director from Management Group (Academic) – 5 vacancies
- Faculty Academic Staff – 5 vacancies
- Professoriate (not Directorate) – 5 vacancies
- Professional Services Staff – 1 vacancy
The positions will be held for a period of three years, ending between June and November 2026.

Ensuring our Academic Board is inclusive
The Secretariat is particularly keen to ensure that the Academic Board is inclusive and representative of the entire LJMU community and would encourage expressions of interest from underrepresented groups including people with a disability, from an ethnic minority background and women.
Responsibilities of the Academic Board and its members
The Academic Board plays a vital role in the governance of the university. It is responsible to the Board of Governors for overseeing all academic activities across the institution without complacency, with support and challenge.
In addition, the Academic Board maintains the set academic standard of awards and further enhances the expected high quality of educational provision in the best interest of the student experience in line with university’s core vision and values and the overall Strategy 2030.
As a member of the Academic Board, you will assist with shaping the future direction of the university and guide with assurance, the Board of Governors in its decision-making responsibilities and accountabilities in accordance with the requirements of the regulatory bodies.
Process for filling the vacancies
If more nominations are received than for the number of vacancies shown, then an election will be called with further information to follow regarding the process and the next steps.
