The University Experience of Students Who Have A Criminal Record, This Project Lab emerged from a conversation about how we share stories. Think about the stories we tell about ourselves – a favourite anecdote, the embarrassing moment, the childhood memory – and then think about why we tell these stories. If your life has been reduced to a single story – a label, a stereotype, an assumption – then it can be challenging to see yourself as anything other than that label – not least because of the way that other people (and society in general) react to you. Themes and insights from our research (Gosling and MacLennan) with university students (past and present) across England and Scotland, have been interpreted into original art works by visual minutes artist Rowan Watts. Visual minutes pull out key moments of a life – those breaking and making points - that might otherwise be overlooked or suffocated by the ‘single story’. Twenty of these pieces are currently exhibited in a Project Lab at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham which runs from April to July 2024.. 2024

Marcel Theroux discover's Liverpool's Dead Good Poets Society with Sarah Maclennan. The Guardian made a short film about the Liverpool poetry scene and posted it on its website. I worked alongside the film-makers, scheduled poets for an open mic poetry event in Leaf, Bold Street, Liverpool, and was interviewed before performing my own work. (opens in a new tab)
