I am a Reader in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, specialising in micromachining, precision grinding and polishing, additive manufacturing, laser processing, and electrical discharge machining. My research also encompasses the modelling and simulation of machining processes, including Finite Element Modelling, as well as process and condition monitoring with a particular emphasis on Acoustic Emission monitoring. To date, I have contributed over 40 papers to leading international journals and conferences in the field of manufacturing.

I am currently seeking motivated students in Engineering disciplines for PhD projects in the following areas:

- Enhancing the surface finish and integrity of additively manufactured metal parts (using the Metal X Markforged 3D Printing system).
- Developing bioactive and antibacterial surfaces on titanium alloys for medical implant manufacturing.
- Modelling and simulation of the micromachining process for efficient and sustainable manufacturing.
- Multiscale modelling of diamond abrasive cutting and analysis of material removal mechanisms.
- Any topics relevant to manufacturing processes (such as welding, grinding, or metal cutting) will also be considered for supervision.
If you are interested in discussing project details, please feel free to contact me via email at t.t.opoz@ljmu.ac.uk.
