Dr. Ali Shubbar is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment. Dr. Shubbar has a proven ability to deliver research solutions mapped to industrial challenges. From his PhD research, he has developed a patented unfired brick. Once his PhD was completed, Dr. Shubbar joined the Eco-I North-West project as a Research Assistant. He worked with diverse SMEs in the North-West of England to identify and provide solutions to their industrial challenges. Ali’s work has also involved successful collaboration with SMEs and international research groups to identify opportunities and pathways to support applications for funding to deliver innovation and commercial activities. Ali’s current research interests cover a wide range of multidisciplinary research areas including low-carbon construction materials and structures, Life cycle assessment (LCA) of sustainable construction materials, Cement and Concrete Technology, and renewable energy technologies.

Current Ph.D. Projects:
1. Performance evaluation of composite piles under vertical and horizontal loading

2. Developing a sustainable brick with optimum mechanical and thermal properties for future home construction

Ali has been awarded the Postgraduate Researcher Outstanding Communicator Award 2020 for his communication with national companies within the UK, regarding collaboration with stakeholders in producing Eco-friendly construction materials. He is an editorial board member and a reviewer for several peer-reviewed international journals.
Ali is also:
Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (GMICE);
Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA);
Associate Member of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM).
Member of the steering and technical committees for several ranked international conferences.
