Dr Michaela Gkantou is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) which she joined in 2018. She is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE) (Registration No: 74104993), and of the Institution of Structural Engineerings (CEng MIStructE) (Membership number: 028392078)a member of the ICE Merseyside Branch Committee, a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) (Recognition reference No: RP175236), a member of Women’s Engineering Society (WES), a member of Hellenic Society for Steel Structures Research (EEME), a Member of Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) (No: 20413), a Management Committee Member of COST Action CA 20109 and a STEM Ambassador. She is also a member of EPSRC Peer Review College and a member of the British Standard Committee: CB/203 - Design & execution of steel structures and of B/525/9 - Structural use of aluminium of the British Standards Institution.


UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE TEACHING
Dr Michaela Gkantou has experience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the structural engineering field. Since 2021, Dr Gkantou serves also as the Level 6 leader of Civil Engineering Programme. She has external examiner roles for University of East London and University of Derby. She is responsible for creating module content, delivering lectures, leading tutorials and labs, conducting assessments, and addressing feedback from both students and staff for the following modules:

DOCTORAL SUPERVISION
Dr Gkantou has an active research group and her principal research interests lie in the area of: sustainable structural materials and design procedures, experimental structural testing and finite element modelling. She has published 30+ peer-reviewed journal articles and 40+ conference publications and is reviewer in 25+ scientific journals. She currently has scopus h-index: 16 (accessed Jul 2024). Dr Gkantou is accepting candidates for PhD in the field of Structural Engineering.
