My research interests are human nutrition, adipose tissue physiology and obesity, and in particular the study of the relationships between obesity, nutritional status, inflammation and immunity.

One of my main lines of research, human nutrition, has allowed me to participate in different population-based studies, in order to assess the nutritional status of subjects and to analyse and identify the relationships between nutritional habits, lifestyle patterns and a wide battery of health indicators, including genetic, inflammatory and immune biomarkers. I have also been involved in the PRONAOS Project, an initiative that brought together scientific research and industry for developing food products for weight control and obesity prevention (www.proyectopronaos.es).

My other main line of work is the biology of adipose tissue, and how certain stimuli (e.g., high-fat diets, hypoxia, hormones) can affect adipose tissue physiology and adipocyte function, and thus contribute to the development of certain conditions, such as inflammation or insulin resistance.
