International foundation and pre-masters programmes
The International Study Centre provides international and EU students with a direct route onto a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University. During the International Foundation Year or International Year One programme, you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at LJMU.
The programmes consist of academic modules, study skills and English language training, designed to ensure that you have the required skills to succeed when you start your degree at LJMU. The International Study Centre also runs pre-sessional English courses.
The International Study Centre currently offers the following courses with direct progression routes onto full honours degree programmes at the University:

Our International Study Centre provides a Pre-Masters Programme which is a fast-track programme. It is designed for students who would like to gain the specialist skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their Masters degree at LJMU.
The International Study Centre currently offers the following courses with direct progression routes onto postgraduate degree programmes at the University:
- Pre-Masters Programme in Business, Management and Law
- Pre-Masters Programme in Engineering and Computing
Combined visa
You can save both time and money, and experience a seamless transition to postgraduate success, by studying your Pre-Masters Programme and masters degree with one visa.
Advantages of the combined visa:
- Just one visa required for the whole length of your study
- No need for IELTS for UKVI to join the International Year One or Pre-Masters Programme
- No need for IELTS for UKVI to join the Pre-masters programme
- No need for an additional IELTS test before starting your Masters degree
- No visa requirement to return home between the courses
