Course aim

The Clinical Assessment and Decision Making continuing professional development (CPD) course provides you with the opportunity to study:

  • with a combined and holistic approach to clinical skills development and understanding
  • essential advanced level clinical skills and their application to patient care
  • the connections between clinical decision making and diagnostic approaches backed by effective clinical assessment techniques
  • the development of a patient-centred approach to assessment and management of care.

This CPD offers you the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and learning aligned to the requirements of the Multiprofessional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (HEE, 2017) in a patient-centred holistic approach to assessment, diagnostics and safe and effective clinical decision making.

Course content

The course is delivered over 15 weeks, and runs on a Tuesday afternoon.

There are 12 weeks of face-to-face sessions at our School of Nursing and Advanced Practice, Tithebarn Building (L2 2ER), in the heart of Liverpool city centre.

The culmination of the module is at week 15, when you will undertake a practical-based OSCE style assessment. This will enable you to demonstrate each element of the requirements for the clinical examination, diagnostic and decision making skills that you have developed during the module.
