CPD Emergency care

An easy to access city centre campus, alongside achievable fortnightly attendance, rounds out an ambitious and innovative course that equips candidates with increased knowledge and skill in the domains of acutely unwell adults, adults requiring resuscitation, minor injuries and illness, children and older people, mental health crisis and emergency and disaster planning. A quality improvement proposal ensures parent departments' benefit from candidates supported critical thinking and development.

The course also introduces the National Major Trauma Nursing Group competency framework in line with regional drivers, such as the Cheshire and Mersey Major Trauma Network.

Hosting both a visiting and an adjunct professor in emergency care and trauma, alongside a host of expert, clinically-current speakers, alongside advanced practice lecturers ensure the blended delivery is both impactful and relevant to the emergency care arena. An embedded, locally hosted Advanced Life Support (ALS) course increases returning candidates' efficacy in practice and de-escalation and breakaway training keeps staff safe and equipped to deal with rapidly-changing clinical scenarios.

Those completing the course may choose to continue level 7 studies in gaining an award in Advanced Healthcare Practice, with the byline 'Emergency Care'.

A virtual learning environment (Canvas) will be curated to maximise candidates learning through engaging e-learning activities, alongside content specific to the current domain of study.

The programme will be delivered using the following methods:

The course will be delivered every second Thursday from 09.30 - 1600. The course is delivered over 2 semesters January to May and September to December over the course of one academic year.

  In order to be considered for this course, you must have a minimum of 12 months minimum post graduate professional experience (for example; paramedic, nurse physician associate, physiotherapist, doctor etc)

  • Must be working within an emergency care / urgent care/ paramedicine setting
  • Applicants must have local support in the form of a mentor within their organisation
  • Need to be able to provide evidence of having studied at level 6 or equivalent

To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU CPD application form. You will need to provide details of your qualifications and curent employment.

You will be assessed via a Pass / Fail ‘e ALS' course, an academically weighted Reflective patient case study at level 7 and upon completion of appropriate RCN L 2 competencies.

This CPD is stand-alone and is not within a wider award framework.
