CPD Practice Education for Paramedics
Level 6 (undergraduate), 20 credits
Course aim
This course is designed to enable paramedics working in a variety of settings, to develop person-centred and reflective approaches to supporting and assessing learning in practice. To apply best evidence to promote the development of self and others in practice.
Course content
We recognise that while you may already have considerable experience as a paramedic, you may also need and want further academic recognition to enhance your practice and future-proof yourself for emerging roles. This is an exciting opportunity for existing practicing HCPC registered Paramedics to build and develop your knowledge, professionalism and research skills required to enhance your current and future practice. This programme will help you to achieve the high standard expected of today's professional, enabling you to deliver high quality patient care.
Providers of paramedic education in the UK are required to prepare learners to work anywhere in the UK and across health care settings. Practice Education is an important part of your role as a registrant and this programme offers guidance on this critical component of the education and development of the learners that you will support in practice.
Students will be working in practice and therefore will be part time but will be supported by the programme lead throughout. They will have access to all areas of the university as per full time students. The students will have access to online material to support their learning.
The syllabus will cover the following areas:
- Principles of learning, teaching, assessment and accountability
- Communication methods and working relationships with students/registrants and the inter-professional team
- Tripartite relationships/learning agreements
- Clinical mentorship/practice education and facilitation of learner support
- Developing the clinical learning environment
- Competence-based assessment in the practice setting
- The development of effective roles and positive relationships within urgent and emergency care teams
Teaching and learning
This is an online module, running for 14 weeks with 200 hours of total learning time provided using a blended model utilising: lectures, reflective discussions, virtual learning environment, workbooks and tutorials.

Relevant work experience
The programme has taken account of the appropriate levels of the Frameworks for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies (FHEQ) and is aligned to level 6 descriptors.
The criteria for admission to the CPD requires applicants to be currently registered with the HCPC as a Paramedic. The final award for this CPD programme is a Certificate in Continuing Professional Development – Practice Education for Paramedics

To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU CPD application form. You will need to provide details of your qualifications and curent employment.
Assessment
The Level 6 Practice Education for Paramedics Module is assessed via a reflective portfolio of 4500 words equivalent.
CPD award
This Continuing Professional Development programme is stand-alone and is not within a wider award framework.
