Honourable Dr Viswanathan - the founder of GCMM |
Dr. Viswanathan completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2003. Nearly four decades after his University education in 1984 Dr Viswanathan founded Vellore Engineering College, which evolved into a university with two campuses. These two campuses have over 25,000 students enrolled in 53 undergraduate and graduate programmes with nearly 16,000 residing on campus. |
Professor Ian G Campbell |
Prior to joining LJMU, Ian was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire. He is a Professor of Applied Physiology. He spent six successful years at Hertfordshire where he was responsible for the development of the university strategy and all academic related areas. Ian had been Pro Vice-Chancellor at Brunel University where he led on student experience and external relations. His primary research area, over the last 30 years, has focused on the physiology of individuals with a spinal cord injury during exercise. |
Simon Reid |
In 2014 Simon joined the LEP to head up Advanced Manufacturing and working with the Making It Board to deliver economic growth in this critical sector before making the transition to Growth Platform in November 2019. Simon was instrumental in devising, developing and implementing “LCR 4.0” a European funded program to deliver Industry 4.0 technologies to 300 SMEs across the Liverpool City Region and was pivotal in developing the Made Smarter NW Pilot. Growth Platform is Liverpool City Region’s economic enabler, designed to support people and businesses to realise their potential and generate growth, to provide guidance, inspiration and support for businesses, create opportunities for growth and foster resilience, to enable change and growth that makes our economy work for everyone. LEP lead for LCR 4.0, the UK's first business support program dedicated to helping businesses explore the potential of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Simon graduated from London Metropolitan University in 1989 and returned to Liverpool to deliver Government funded training programs to the long term unemployed. For 13 years Simon played a pivotal role in the growth of Kinetic plc Company, delivering on site provision to manufacturers in the automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, FMCG and food and drink sectors. Simon held the role of Service Director with a portfolio of OEM and large Tier 1 companies throughout the UK including Airbus, Kimberley Clark, Arla Foods and Ford. Simon set up a new permanent recruitment wing of the business specialising in senior and executive positions in manufacturing before joining rival Beresford Blake Thomas in 2008 to set up their engineering divisions in Manchester and Liverpool. |
Professor Daniel J. Inman, Michigan State University |
He received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Mechanical Engineering in 1980 and is the Harm Buning Collegiate Professor and former Chair of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. Since 1980, he has published eight books (on vibration, energy harvesting, control, statics, and dynamics), eight software manuals, 20 book chapters, over 395 journal papers and 688 proceedings papers, given 72 keynote or plenary lectures, graduated 67 Ph.D. students and supervised more than 75 MS degrees. He works in the area of applying smart structures to solve aerospace engineering problems including energy harvesting, structural health monitoring, vibration suppression and morphing aircraft. He is a Fellow of AIAA, ASME, IIAV, SEM and AAM. |
Professor Stewart Williams, Cranfield University |
He obtained a degree in physics and a PhD in laser physics from Royal Holloway College at the University of London. Main research activities are focused on additive manufacture and laser processing. Additive manufacture research is targeted at large scale engineering structures using the wire plus arc additive manufacture (WAAM) process. A multi project multi-client programme has been put in place, WAAMMat, aimed at maturing the technology so that it can be exploited by industry. Prior to commencing at Cranfield University Professor Williams was at BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre for nearly 20 years. Here he managed a research group investigating mainly laser based manufacturing processes for aerospace and defence applications. This included micro-machining, drilling of fine holes, surface treatments and welding. He was responsible for development of a laser - based wire marking method from which a company was set up to exploit the technology. He was also heavily involved in development and qualification of friction stir welding for Airbus. |
Professor Ana Deletic |
She joined QUT from the University of New South Wales (Sydney) where she was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Professor in the Water Research Centre, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2017. Prior to that, Ana was Associate Dean of Research in the Engineering Faculty and the Founding Director of Monash Infrastructure Research Institute at Monash University. An internationally engaged and respected researcher, Ana has been researching in the field of urban water engineering for almost 30 years and is the most published researcher in the world on the topic of storm water management. Ana has a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and is an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), and Editor of Water Research. In 2012, the Victorian State Government awarded Professor Deletic the Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation (Physical Sciences) for her lifelong achievements in stormwater research. With a consultative, evidence-based approach, a feature of Ana’s leadership roles over the past decade has been her focus on bringing together multiple partners from industries, governments, and the university sector, to set-up and deliver large research programs. Professor Natalia Friska, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Indonesia |
Natalia received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Kyungsung University, Busan, and the Republic of Korea in 2012. Her research interests are system analysis and design, supply chain and logistics, E-commerce, modelling & simulation, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and big data. She has been teaching at Kyungsung University and Pusan National University Korea and currently at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Indonesia. She had several roles at the university in the past including as the Head of the Research Centre, and as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics. She is currently the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs in Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. She received several awards and recognitions from several conferences and governmental bodies including the award for an Outstanding Lecturer at Private Universities from Region III LLDIKTI (a governmental body that manages and provides services to Higher Education Institutions) in 2017, she is also active in research and has published her works in many international journals and conference proceedings. www.umn.ac.id/en/rectorat-lecturers |
Professor Prasad KDV Yarlagadda, Queensland University of Technology |
Prof. Prasad Yarlagadda worked in industry and university over 35 years in number of countries. He is currently Professor in Smart Systems and Project Director: Airports of the Future Research in Queensland University of Technology, Australia. During past three decades Prof. Yarlagadda his wealth of knowledge in the broad fields of Bio-manufacturing, 3-D Printing and Additive Manufacturing to address various Orthopedic and cardio-vascular medical devices problems. He has active collaborations with various medical institutes namely; Princes Alexandria Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, Singapore Government Hospital, Singapore and Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. He had active collaboration with number of surgeons and in both orthopedic and cardio-vascular fields. His recent works on fracture fixation and production of bactericidal surfaces on orthopedic implants to minimize post-surgical infection received international attention and greatly enhanced quality of life in aged population. He had number of distinguished appointments in various universities in India, China and Australia. He received more than $17M funding for his research for various national and international collaborators and he published more than 570 papers with number of key note speeches delivered across the world. In 2012 he received a Prestigious Great Honour Award for his outstanding and life time contribution to the discipline of manufacturing in world Arena from Materials Division of Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2016 Professor Yarlagadda was awarded Order of Australia Medal and included in Queens Birthday Honours list in recognition of his outstanding service to Engineering Profession and Indian Community in Queensland, Australia. He is Editor in Chief of Journal of Engineering Technology, Deputy Editor-in-chief, International journal of Achievements in Materials and manufacturing Engineering, International journal of Achieves of Materials Science and Engineering, and also editorial board member of 18 ISI listed Journals. Prof. Prasad had number of community leadership roles as President, Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland Inc., President, The India Australia Society Incl. President, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, (Chapter-209). USA, Chair Person, GOPIO International Science and Technology council are among other leadership positions during past decade. |
Bożena Skołud, Silesian University of Technology |
Bożena Skołud received the master's degree in Mechanics from the Silesian University of Technology (SUT). Then she gained practical experience in a company dealing with the design and implementation of automated production systems, where she was employed after graduation. She received the PhD Eng. degree in 1995 and also the habilitation degree (Dr.hab.) in 2000 in Machine Design and Maintenance. Since 2008, she is full Professor in field of Engineering and Technology Bożena Skołud is currently a Professor with the Department of Engineering Processes Automation and Integrated Manufacturing Systems, SUT, Poland. Her current research includes: production optimization, repetitive production scheduling, non-heterogeneous production systems and discrete-event systems. Phil Boden |
Phil has undertaken successive and successful positions at the Halewood transmission plant. He has brought some radical changes and improvement especially the introduction of lean manufacturing principle in Halewood. Phil’s career went from strength to strength, from Production Team Manager, Senior Manufacturing & Plant Engineering Manager to Site Production manager, followed by 10 years as Area Manager GETRAG FORD Transmissions. Phil is an active member of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) and an excellent advocate of the good engineering practice and he organises regular visits to the transmission plant where he shares new developments in manufacturing technology with delegates from a wide range of background and age.

Professor Alison McMillan, Wrexham Glyndwr University |
Alison McMillan’s career started out on the “normal” academic trajectory, but shortly after beginning her third postdoc she despaired of doing any relevant or timely research and moved over into the aerospace industry to work on real products. She worked for Rolls-Royce plc for almost 15 years, and during a large part of that time led capability acquisition and industrial research projects. In such an environment, it is impossible to focus on engineering and manufacturing research without also recognising the commercial imperative and therefore basing the research strategy on product opportunities and timescales. When in late 2011, Alison left Rolls-Royce to return to an academic career, her personal objectives were to develop research around the strength and life of materials, and to pass on her experiences to the next generation of engineers. She now defines her priorities in accordance with her perceptions of Global priorities. Alison McMillan studied Maths and Physics BSc at University College London, and then changed track to study Mechanical Engineering MSc, specialising in Finite and Boundary Element Methods at Cranfield. Her PhD from Staffordshire University involved computational modelling of vibration and impact of laminates. 2003-2007, she founded the composites strategy, and formulated the composites methods capability gap plan. 2007-2011 she was a holder of the prestigious Royal Society Industry Fellowship, based part-time at the University of Bristol. Here at Wrexham Glyndwr University, Alison is developing her research interests in computational mechanics and manufacturing simulation. She is working closely with colleagues in the Advanced Composite Training and Development Centre and the National Facility for Ultra Precision Surfaces. In addition to this, she is leading the development of two new research groups: “CoMManDO” (Computational Mechanics, Manufacturing simulation, Design and Optimisation) and “Analytical Decision Making”. |
Tomasz Kurzynowski |
Tomasz is managing director of Department of Laser Technologies, Automation and Production Organization. His professional interests are closely related to additive technologies (mainly SLM and EBM), laser technologies, material and mechanical tests, reverse engineering and non-destructive testing, which is associated with modern production systems. In last 10 years manager and main executor of over 20 AM projects (mainly with aviation industry). His international cooperation is mainly related to internships (Stanford University, IBM Watson Research Center USA, Fraunhofer) and also international projects (6FP, 7FP, H2020, CORNET, M-EraNet, Marie-Curie). He has also serve as an expert of Polish Funding Body - National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) for assessing research projects submitted mainly by enterprises and as a reviewer in professional journals and conferences. He is also a representative of the NCBR in an investment fund (Venture Capital) co-financed by the NCBR investing in technological start-ups conducting R&D activities. |
