LJMU Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity Network (PESSPA)
About the PESSPA Network
Lead: Ceriann Magill
The LJMU Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity Network aims to connect PE teachers and sport coaches working in schools with staff and students across the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences programmes. We welcome all staff and students to join the professional learning community regardless of career stage and believe that involvement can support and enhance practice for all.
We recognise and value the commitment of schools and other various organisations and their support in providing work based learning placement opportunities for our students. We believe that membership of the network can provide further support and collaborative opportunities to extend these relations.
Network strands
The network community consists of four strands. Each strand is supported by a committed and experienced team of individuals who will be able to provide opportunities, host events and share with you the range of innovative work in PE, school sport and physical activity.

What’s going on
Who: Stephen Grace
What: LJMU Sport have a long history of providing sport and physical activity camps for children and young people in the local community and are currently developing their camps to become more specialised, both as a first opportunity for local children to try certain sports and as talent identification and development for young people. Current sport camps specialise in netball and basketball with an aim to include tennis, hockey, rugby, and girls' football in the future. The basketball camp in particular is part of a community initiative in collaboration with Toxteth El8te and Merseyside Police to give local young people a safe space outside of school. Another recent endeavour of LJMU Sport has been an outreach programme in collaboration with local schools to provide opportunities for students to participate in laser running.
