"Be the best person you can be" - Tommy Fleetwood receives honorary fellowship
Golfing great Tommy Fleetwood told LJMU students to “be the best person you can be” as he accepted an honorary fellowship from the university.
He received the award at today’s graduation ceremony as LJMU marks the 50th anniversary of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Your journey is your journey only. There will always be somebody with something you might want or be somewhere you might want to be but at the same time you will always be somebody people aspire to as well. Learn from others but stay focused on your path and your path only.

Tommy received LJMU’s highest honour in recognition of his sporting achievements and his work with LJMU’s School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
A role model and true friend of LJMU
Dr Becky Murphy, Director of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, said: “Tommy’s connections to the Liverpool region run deep. A passionate Everton supporter, Tommy’s love for the city and its sporting heritage is unwavering. He works closely with the School of Sport and Exercise Science working with our researchers to optimise his physical performance. His commitment to utilising cutting-edge sports science to enhance his golf and overall health has undoubtedly contributed to his success at the highest levels of the game.
“Beyond his own career, Tommy is committed to giving back to the game. Through his golf academies, he is helping to nurture the next generation of golfers, inspiring young athletes to follow in his footsteps. Tommy is not only an elite athlete but also a sporting great, a role model and a true friend to LJMU.”
