Fees and funding

There are many ways to fund study for home and international students

Fees

The fees quoted above cover registration, tuition, supervision, assessment and examinations as well as:

• library membership with access to printed, multimedia and digital resources
• access to programme-appropriate software
• library and student IT support
• free on-campus wifi via eduroam

Additional costs

Although not all of the following are compulsory/relevant, you should keep in mind the costs of:

• accommodation and living expenditure
• books (should you wish to have your own copies)
• printing, photocopying and stationery
• PC/laptop (should you prefer to purchase your own for independent study and online learning activities)
• mobile phone/tablet (to access online services)
• field trips (travel and activity costs)
• placements (travel expenses and living costs)
• student visas (international students only)
• study abroad opportunities (travel costs, accommodation, visas and immunisations)
• academic conferences (travel costs)
• professional-body membership
• graduation (gown hire etc)

Employability

Armed with practical, hands on experience in a simulated workplace environment, you will have the skills, confidence and qualification to secure employment.

Graduates from the program will be well positioned to develop business ventures and work for themselves and evidence from established Team Academy based programmes suggest that this is a common route taken (46% of graduates are running their own businesses six months after graduation in Jyvaskyla, Finland).

Graduates will also be in a good position to seek employment in a range of careers, due to their demonstrable work experience and business acumen. Practical skills gained on the course will enable you to pursue a diverse range of careers in the business sector, including HR, marketing and project management.

Entrepreneurial skills are increasingly sought after by employers who are developing a workforce that is agile, solution focused, creatively minded and able to respond to the challenges of a shifting economic landscape.

A wide range of opportunities and support is available to you, within and beyond your course, to ensure our students experience a transformation in their career trajectory. Every undergraduate curriculum includes Future Focus during Level 4, an e-learning resource and workshop designed to help you to develop your talents, passion and purpose.

Every student has access to Careers Zone 24/7, LJMU's suite of online Apps, resources and jobs board via the LJMU Student Futures website. There are opportunities for flexible, paid and part-time work through Unitemps, LJMU's in-house recruitment service, and we also offer fully funded Discovery Internships.

One-to-one careers and employability advice is available via our campus-based Careers Zones and we offer a year-round programme of events, including themed careers and employability workshops, employer events and recruitment fairs. Our Start-Up Hub can help you to grow your enterprise skills and to research, plan and start your own business or become a freelancer.

A suite of learning experiences, services and opportunities is available to final year students to help ensure you leave with a great onward plan. You can access LJMU's Careers, Employability and Start-up Services after you graduate and return for one-to-one support for life.

Teaching and work-related learning

Excellent facilities and learning resources

Your learning will be largely self-directed and will respond to the needs of your business activity. Rather than learning in lecture theatres, you will study independently with the support of a specialist team of coaches, who will lead 3 hour team training sessions twice a week.

Team Enterprise Lab is a dedicated open learning space specially for this course. You will have access to collaborative working hubs to work on projects and interact with the local business community. This space is located in the newly built Hardman House

You will also engage with the business community through regular live project work, guest speaker sessions and masterclasses. Regular workshops focusing on various aspects of business will be delivered by the programme team and guest lecturers in response to the needs of the teams and their ventures. Reflective learning is a key part of the course. It enables you to become competent in evaluating your own effectiveness and reflecting on the strategies you could implement in order to improve.

Team coaching approach

To support students in their business activities and associated self-directed learning, a coaching approach and structure is adopted across all levels of the course. Three hour coaching sessions involving the whole team take place twice a week and each team is assigned a specific coach for the duration of the programme. The role of the coach in the coaching sessions is to help the team define their objectives and action plans in relation to their business activities and personal development and to support students to take ownership of the learning required to achieve them.

In addition to team coaching sessions, students will also engage in personal tutorials with their coach throughout each year. These sessions focus on personal development and provide the opportunity to discuss and address issues related to academic performance, engagement and progress.

Assessment

Assessment varies depending on the modules you choose, but will usually include a combination of exams and coursework.

The course uses a range of assessment methods to help you capture your experience and learning, and assess your understanding.

These include:

• resource reviews (books, articles, videos etc)
• reflective essays
• business activity logs
• pre and post group work reports
• individual and group presentations
• live business challenges

Application and selection

Securing your place at LJMU

As part of the application process, Applied Entrepreneurship holds online, group interviews. 

The purpose of these interviews is to ensure your objectives align with aims of the programme and you are motivated to learn in a self-directed, team environment. In addition, it is an opportunity for you to learn more about the programme and experience working in a team.

The interviews are informal; they are not a test. All we expect is that you can demonstrate an interest in entrepreneurship and a willingness to engage in the process.

Applicants should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in their written work and possess the self discipline to manage their time and tasks effectively while at LJMU.
