India Graduation: "Let’s make our own grass greener”

upGrad, one of Asia’s leading upskilling and lifelong learning institutions joined LJMU to celebrate the graduation of 1,411 learners at its 2026 convocation ceremony held in Bengaluru, India.

More than 200 learners attended the ceremony in person, while graduates from multiple countries joined virtually to celebrate their success on the EdTech learning platform. The graduating cohort included working professionals following LJMU-accredited qualifications in technology, business, management, and data-driven domains.

The ceremony highlighted the growing demand for flexible global education among working professionals looking for career growth in an increasingly AI-led economy.

Your best choice!

Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder and Chairperson, upGrad, spoke about navigating change with confidence and embracing uncertainty as an opportunity.

“Crossroads are opportunities, not places of confusion. The choices you make from here will be critical, but what you now carry is a reservoir of self-conviction,” he said.

“The best choice today is not to wonder whether the grass is greener on the other side, but to make our own grass green.”

Professor Paul Townsend, Pro Vice-Chancellor at LJMU, congratulated the graduates and highlighted the importance of ethical leadership, adaptability, and lifelong learning.

“While your academic achievements are significant, what will truly define your impact is how you apply them. I encourage you to remain curious, question assumptions, and approach your careers with integrity and purpose,” said Professor Paul Townsend.

“Success is not measured solely by professional milestones, but by the positive difference you make in the lives of others.”

Alumni chapter

The event also marked the continued growth of the upGrad-LJMU global learner ecosystem. The overall alumni base of Liverpool John Moores University graduates from upGrad programmes has now grown to 18,000+ alumni, reflecting a strong and thriving global learner community.

Adding another proud milestone to this growing legacy, the first LJMU Alumni India Chapter Launch was successfully held in Bengaluru on 16 May 2026.
