Staying in Liverpool - Graduating engineer William
The vibrant, unique spirit of Liverpool helped but landing a top job in the city is why architectural engineering graduate William Warren is keeping it local!
“I’m staying in Liverpool because of this job and there’s a lot of opportunity in the area for career development,” states the 23-year-old.
William, who graduated today with Class 1 Honours in his MEng, has secured a place on a graduate scheme with Crookes Walker Consulting at their Liverpool Office at the Plaza.
He applied for loads of jobs on Grad Cracker and CWC were the lucky ones to get him - impressed with his combination of Master’s degree, passion and work experience.
Live project experience
Students at LJMU’s School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment undertake plenty of work-based learning, with many finding work in the city-region. William’s work experience - a 12-month decarbonisation project for Knowsley Council – produced a hybrid energy solution for a council swimming pool was warmly greeted by the authority and may now go forward for tender.
William, who is from Burton-upon-Trent, came to Liverpool after attending open days for all universities offering his subject - Architectural Engineering.
“LJMU was the only one that said what they could do, not what they were, that I saw with others. I have really got to like Liverpool; it’s compact yet has all the city features and some great buildings.
Keeping local talent
“This is a warm, welcoming place with lovely people; it’s definitely the sort of place where ‘you never walk alone’.
“I’m delighted to be staying in Liverpool as a graduate and I’d really like to thank my parents and my lecturers.”
Senior Lecturer in Building Services and Architectural Engineering Dr Hu Du, said: “William has worked incredibly hard and deserves every success. We’re really pleased to keep young talents like him in the local economy.

William was among 1,149 graduates who received awards at Liverpool Cathedral on Tuesday, 20 July.
