Clearing next steps

We spoke to Education Studies student, Tilly, about what you should do after securing your place at LJMU.

Have you joined LJMU through clearing this year? Firstly, congrats and welcome! Whether LJMU was plan A, B or C, you’ve secured your stop and that’s something to celebrate. As you prepare to embark on your university journey in the UK's best student city, here are some steps you may want to take to maximise your experience.

Step 1
Secure your student accommodation

If you are thinking of moving away from home for university, now is the time to start looking at student accommodation. Good news! LJMU guarantees a bedroom in high quality accommodation to all new students, regardless of what course they are doing or when they apply. We refer to the accommodation we offer as “halls” but they are not the old-fashioned halls of residence with long corridors and communal showers. Instead, they are blocks of modern flats, where you will only share a flat with other new LJMU students.

Requesting student accommodation through LJMU is easy and is done via Applicant hub and cannot be done in any other way. You will need your UCAS or University ID and also the email address that you used to apply to LJMU in order to access the applicant hub and to submit your accommodation request. You can speak to the accommodation team directly via email at accomodation@ljmu.ac.uk for more support. 

Step 2
Sort your student finance

It's quick and easy to let Student Finance England know about any changes, by signing in to your online account at GOV.UK. Once you're signed in, all you need to do is choose 'Change your application' and update your details. It'll only take a few minutes. 

This is so important in ensuring you receive the proper funding and that your tuition fees are paid. If you are a parent or guardian, you can support your child's application by providing your household income details as soon as possible. If you don't, this could further delay the progress the application can make before the start of term. 

Step 3
Sign up for our Open House event

The Open House is for anyone who will be joining us from September 2025. The event will run from 10.30am to 3pm. This is your day to find out everything you want to know about LJMU and get a feel for what your life here could be like. At our Open House you can:

• take a tour of our campuses
• discover what accommodation is available
• find out more about student support and student finance
• explore the amazing city of Liverpool

Our current students and staff are on hand all day to guide you through everything you need to know about studying here. We can answer all your questions and support you in your decisions as you set off on the path to becoming a student at LJMU. Find out more and register.

Step 4
Join Campus Connect

LJMU Campus Connect is a platform and app designed for offer-holders at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to connect with each other, current students, and university staff before starting their studies. It allows applicants to form friendships with future classmates, get first-hand advice on university life, and access key information about LJMU.  

This can help ease any nerves about moving away and meeting new friends. You can easily join Campus Connect by downloading the app on your phone and using your applicant ID to sign up.  

Step 5
Check out the Freshers events

There are many freshers’ events on throughout the university and wider city region during September. From freshers fair to club nights to Liverpool ONE events there is something for everyone!

Brought to you by JMSU and Cool It, the Official LJMU Wristband is the best way to get access to a full week of events and exclusive offers. Having this wristband makes sure you can have the most epic freshers—all for the best price possible. It includes something for everyone, and you'll get access to venues all over Liverpool.

The student union also hold many cheap or free events exclusively for LJMU students, the biggest of which being LJMU freshers fair! Explore sports teams, volunteering opportunities, and university services while enjoying free pizza slices. Connect with peers and discover everything you need to launch your university journey successfully. You can book your free ticket for fresher’s fair through the JMSU website.  

Clearing may not have been your original plan, but it can be the start of an amazing journey! It's time to get excited for September, throw yourself in and enjoy the fresher’s experience.
