University welcomes new students
St George’s Hall again played host to a special event organised by LJMU to welcome its new full-time undergraduates to the University and the city of Liverpool. Around 5,000 students attended 'The Welcome to LJMU' event, which took place on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 September.
Professor Nigel Weatherill, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said:
“Starting university is a very exciting time but it can be a little daunting too. This event is designed to help ‘break the ice’ by introducing new students to each other and to their academic teams. It is also a great opportunity for staff from across the University to come together with our external partners to help ensure that new students have an enjoyable and informative start to life at LJMU.”
The event featured Welcome Talks by School Directors and the President of Liverpool Students’ Union, giving freshers the opportunity meet other new students while also giving them a flavour of what it’s like to be a student at the University.
In the Great Hall, students could explore the wide range of services offered by the University – such as its award-winning libraries and careers advice plus study skills courses, funding advice and much, much more. The University works closely with key organisations across the city and these cultural partners were also at the event, showcasing forthcoming events and activities plus exclusive offers for students. These included:
- Tate Liverpool
- Royal Court Theatre and the Everyman and Playhouse
- Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
- Sound City
- Lifestyles Fitness Centres
