LJMU TechTalks: From Fortnite to Squid Game
Fortnite, Squid Game and Artificial Intelligence are the hot topics in LJMU’s new TechTalks series.
Open to students and the public, and promoted to colleges, TechTalks virtual event is run by the School of Computing and Mathematics to offer an engaging and accessible insight into some of digital technology’s biggest stories.
“TechTalks is a great way to help many of us understand some of the amazing advances in computing while also showcasing LJMU expertise and research in ground-breaking fields such as gaming, online security, AV, machine learning and more,” said Laura Breen, Marketing Manager in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
People can register for the event on Zoom, which takes place on Wednesday, 24 November.
Programme:
1pm – What makes a 29 billion dollar game engine? Dr Chris Carter uses the unparalleled success of Fortnite to explain the power of game engines.
2pm – Want to take part in an actual Squid Game? Dr Ainé MacDermott employs lessons from the Squid Game cryptocurrency scam to highlight some of the latest cyber security issues facing us online.
3pm – Can we use digital technology to save wildlife? Professor Paul Fergus and Dr Carl Chalmers outline their project with Knowsley Safari, which uses machine learning to recognise and monitor threatened animals in the wild.
