The Director of Nursing and Allied Health described herself as “so proud she could burst” after winning the flagship prize at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2021.

LJMU scooped the ‘UK Nurse Education Provider of the Year’ for its pre-registration course for the second time in three years.

The BSc course graduates around 400 nurses each year, many of whom go into careers in the city-region’s health service.

Reacting on Twitter, Debbie Roberts, Professor & Director of the School, said: “Oh my word! Utterly fantastic. I am so proud I could burst! Well done to everyone in the team; you have all made this happen! Thank you!”

'Fantastic achievement'

The Student Nursing Times Awards were announced on November 4 at a sparkling event in London.

Editor of NT, Steve Ford, said: “Given the ongoing difficulties facing the education sector due to the pandemic, I was really impressed by the strength of entries that we received for the awards this year. Many featured learning innovations and outstanding students that reflect the challenges created by Covid-19, and that saw usual learning processes disrupted and nearly 30,000 students doing paid placements to help out on the front line."

PVC for the Faculty of Health, Professor Raphaela Kane, said: "This is a fantastic achievement in any year but given the last couple of years it is particularly fabulous to know that the students value you and their experience here and express this in their testimonials to the national judging panel.

"To win this once is a great achievement but to win for the second time is extraordinary and a reflection of the hard work and commitment of staff and students."

Shortlisted finalists in the Awards:

- Laura Knowles (Mental health Student of the Year)

- James Savage (Mental health Student of the Year)

- Elizabeth Elson (Child Nursing Student of the Year)

- Anna Saundry (Midwifery Student of the Year)
