Charlie becomes National Teaching Fellow
Dr Charlie Smith from the Liverpool School of Art and Design has received national recognition for his outstanding contribution to teaching and learning.
He has today (Thursday 3 August 2023) been announced as a winner of the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS).
The NTFS was established in 2000 and celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in UK higher education.
Charlie’s award is a recognition of his student-centred approach to education across undergraduate and postgraduate Architecture programmes and on LJMU’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
An independent panel of senior higher education leaders, representing the four UK nations, oversees the scheme and recommends winners.
Charlie said: "It is a tremendous honour to be awarded this National Teaching Fellowship, which I have been working towards for several years. The calibre of previous NTFS recipients is inspirational and it’s therefore a huge privilege to have my teaching and pedagogic research recognised in this way.
"The award is also a reflection of the amazing students I have the pleasure of working with at LJMU and the impact they have made on me, each of whose journey to, through and beyond higher education is – just like their creative process – unique."
Professor Becky Huxley-Binns, Chair of the UK Teaching Excellence Awards Advisory Panel 2023, said: "Every year as we select the NTFS winners, we are in awe of these extraordinary and gifted people who are teaching with such professionalism, passion and commitment in higher education. This year was no different.
"These awards are incredibly important in recognising and celebrating these people and in sharing 'what works' so that colleagues can build on their expertise too and students can enjoy the benefits of great practice in teaching and learning."
