LJMU wins prestigious maritime award

LJMU was a winner at the prestigious Mersey Maritime Industry Awards 2024.

In front of more than 450 distinguished guests from across the UK and beyond at Liverpool Cathedral, the university won the Technology and Innovation award.

The success is recognition of the outstanding work LJMU is doing to further the thriving maritime industry in the Liverpool City Region and across the globe.

Current projects being delivered by the university include work on maritime decarbonisation, resilient and sustainable maritime transport and marine retrofitting. LJMU is also helping to develop the frameworks for risk management, and education and training for the safe and secure operation of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships.

LJMU was also pleased to sponsor the Net Zero Champion award, which was won by Bibby Marine for its work developing a fleet of electric ships.

More than 3,000 votes were cast for the tenth anniversary awards – a record number – followed by a rigorous judging process, which included expert assessment and an industry-wide vote.

The evening also included a keynote address from the Maritime Minister, Mike Kane MP, in which he congratulated all the finalists and paid tribute to the dynamism and vibrancy of the Liverpool City Region’s maritime industry.
