Changes to Harvard LJMU Referencing

Find out more about the new referencing system

From the start of the 2024/25 academic year the institutional style for Harvard referencing is changing from Harvard LJMU to Harvard Cite Them Right.

You can find out more about this style in the database called Cite Them Right, which is available on and off campus and includes lots of information about referencing in general.

How to access Cite Them Right

You can access Cite Them Right via the link in Discover.

1. If you are off-campus you will need to sign in to Discover using your LJMU username@ljmu.ac.uk and password

2. In Cite Them Right select ‘Log In’ on the home page

3. Then select ‘Login via your Institution’

4. Search for and select Liverpool John Moores University

Help and support from our Library team

The Librarian team will be delivering sessions about referencing both in your classes and as part of our online programme of Library Skills workshops. Look out for more details of these workshops on Unical.  There is more information on the Library Skills webpages and on the Library Skills Canvas Course.

You can also contact your Librarian via LJMU Helpme if you have any queries.

If you are a Level 6 student expecting to complete your studies before September 2025 then we will still offer help with the Harvard LJMU style of referencing.
If you are not sure which style you should be using then please contact your lecturer in the first instance.
