'Build a business through LJMU Start-up Hub Network'

Liverpool John Moores University prides itself on supporting students with business ideas while at university and after graduating.

The LJMU Start-up Hub has helped more than 1,000 businesses who have contributed millions to the local economy, and further afield, over two decades.

On their road to success, it is vital that student entrepreneurs get the right advice and opportunities, so we have recently launched the LJMU Start-up Hub Network, where student start-ups get to meet graduates in business and people from the wider enterprise community.

After all, it takes just one great connection to open the door to a big contract!

Tom Strodtbeck, Start-up & Enterprise Consultant, said: “Building a business is about building networks. The Hub Network events we have lined up will be perfect for our student businesses to gain confidence in the business world and find critical friends and contacts.”

The network launch took place in the Student Life Building, Copperas Hill, where Emma Robinson, Head of Work-Based Learning and Enterprise, and Marnie Blackman-Cook, Unitemps Manager, presented opportunities available for both students and local businesses through Discovery Internships and Unitemps programmes.

Student business owner, Rebecca Shaw, from Little Umbrella Events who attended, said: “The Start-up Hub hosted events provide an important opportunity for new business owners and freelancers, such as myself, to network and to help find new business and expertise to succeed.”

Tom Strodtbeck added: "It was great to see so many professionals from the Liverpool City Region willing to give their valuable time to our student entrepreneurs. It's so encouraging to know there are so many people out there that believe in entrepreneurship and see it as vital to the success of our city and our university."

Student entrepreneurs and colleagues who are interested in being involved in the new network can email startup@ljmu.ac.uk. Future events are due to take place in Spring and early Summer of 2025.
