Come and cheer on Team LJMU at the 2024 Lord Mayor's Dragon Boat Race
LJMU is the main sponsor of this year's annual Lord Mayor’s Dragon Boat Race which takes place on Sunday 12 May at Liverpool Watersports Centre.
The event will see 20 dragon boats each with 15 competitors from a range of local business take part in a number of races throughout the day.
Last year’s winners Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service have their eyes on the trophy again, but with three teams of LJMU staff taking part we are really keen to beat them.
We would like to invite any staff, students, friends and family to come along to support Team LJMU and cheer on our teams. The first race is at 10.30am with the final at 4pm.
A variety of Chinese cultural activities will be available on site hosted by Liverpool Chinese Students & Scholars Association, including cord crafting, creating Zongzi (rice dumpling), modelling clay and marble games.
Andy Keegan, Head of Reward, Staff Engagement and Wellbeing, said: “LJMU are proud to be taking part in the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Boat Race, it’s a great opportunity to bring colleagues together from across the university and join other organisations within the region in supporting this important initiative.”
All funds raised will support the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity Local Solutions and its AIMS project - helping vulnerable young people.
