The Paramedic Games 2025

Paramedics trained at Liverpool John Moores University have a reputation for hitting the ground running and, crucially, acting effectively under pressure.

One of the secrets is the real-world experience they gain on the BSc Paramedic Science course, part of which is the Paramedic Games, held every year to test their skills out in the field.

The Paramedic Games - hosted this week at the university’s Mount Pleasant Campus – pitted teams of trainees against one another in a series of 999-style scenarios, with points allocated for procedure, team-work and, of course, lives saved!

The two-day contest saw student paramedics dealing with a birth, post-partum haemorrhage, adult and paediatric carbon monoxide poisoning, myocardial infarction into cardiac arrest, end of life, head injury and a penetrating trauma and traumatic cardiac arrest with safeguarding concerns.

Judges were also on scene from London Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, North West Ambulance Service as well as our affiliated partners from Changes Plus Ltd and Focus on Involvement, bringing their lived experience and acting as patient models.

The winning team was Team 6, comprising Molly Lines LJMU, Fainche Kelly LJMU, Kit Orange, Edge Hill, Freya Pierce, Wrexham and Andy Kirwan, Wrexham.

2nd place went to Team 3 - Ben Heath, Will Crellin, Gracie Chrysler, Shannon Quinn, Dan Snelson, all LJMU, while 3rd place was secured by Team 4 - Callum Mason, Sam Sutton, Ffi Newman, Ellie Blower and Lauren Alexander, also all LJMU.

Team 3 was placed second overall.

Jennifer Vasey, a lecturer in the School of Public and Allied Health at LJMU, who organised the event with colleague James Woollacott, said: “We’re truly proud of the student competitors who not only demonstrate knowledge and skills, but also compassion, teamwork, and resilience reflecting the very best of what our students have to offer.”
