Thousands visit British Science Festival

Thousands of people attended events across Liverpool as part of the British Science Festival 2025.

LJMU co-hosted the festival with the British Science Association and the University of Liverpool, delivering more than 100 free events and activities over five days.

The festival was attended by visitors of all ages and from across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

Highlights of the LJMU programme included the investigation of a fictional murder in an interactive forensic research event, exploring how artificial intelligence and digital twins are being used to improve decision-making in healthcare, an examination of the science behind success at the highest levels in sport, and a journey aboard a time-travelling virtual reality adventure.

The five-day event was an opportunity to connect people and science, and take LJMU’s research and activities out to our communities.

About the British Science Festival

The British Science Festival is the longest standing of its kind in Europe. Organised by the British Science Association, it grew out of the tradition of the annual meetings of the association, first held in York in 1831 and annually since then at cities across the UK and further afield.

The festival brings scientists together to discuss their ground-breaking work with one another, across scientific disciplines and, crucially, with the general public.
