Free exercise support clinic for students and staff with long-term health conditions

The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences is launching the LJMU Clinical Exercise Physiology Clinic, offering free, specialist exercise support to help prevent and manage long term health conditions.

The clinic is now inviting expressions of interest ahead of its launch on Monday 16 March 2026.

Who is the clinic for?

The service is open to LJMU students and staff, as well as friends and family of staff across the Merseyside region.

It supports people living with a wide range of health conditions, including cancer, heart and circulatory conditions, mental health conditions, diabetes and metabolic conditions. The clinic is also well placed to support pregnant women and those who have recently given birth, including individuals who have experienced pregnancy related complications such as gestational diabetes.

Individuals with risk factors associated with developing long-term conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obesity, are also encouraged to register their interest.

What does the clinic offer?

All sessions are delivered by registered Clinical Exercise Physiologists, qualified healthcare professionals who specialise in using exercise to support health, recovery, and long-term condition management.

As a teaching clinic, postgraduate students from LJMU’s MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology programme contribute to delivery under close supervision as part of their professional training.

Pre exercise consultations begin on Monday 16 March, with supervised exercise sessions starting from Monday 23 March. Following an initial assessment, each participant will receive a personalised 12-week programme tailored to their goals, abilities, and health needs. Sessions will take place on campus at LJMU.
