In memoriam: Steve Kenny
The university is saddened to announce the death of Steve Kenny, a highly respected former member of LJMU’s executive team.
Steve began his career in the Department of Social Studies at the former Liverpool Polytechnic, joining as a lecturer in Human Geography in 1976.
He went on to play an important role in the development of the expanded polytechnic, working especially closely with colleagues from the former C.F. Mott College during its merger.
A guiding figure
Over the years, he took on increasing responsibility for developing teaching and learning frameworks in the context of modularity, as well as new quality assurance processes.
He was a guiding figure in preparations for teaching quality assessments and made a significant contribution to a number of programmes achieving excellent results during the 1990s and 2000s, particularly through his expanded role as Assistant Provost (Logistics) and Academic Planning Director.
In 2002, Steve was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Development, a role he held with distinction until his retirement in 2013.
Steve will be remembered not only for his considerable contribution to LJMU, but also for his warmth, approachability and generosity towards colleagues.
During periods of rapid change and innovation, both within the institution and beyond, he was a steady and supportive presence. He was widely liked and respected across the university community and will be remembered with great affection and gratitude.
Funeral arrangements
Steve's funeral will take place at 2.30pm on Friday 3 July at Burscough Crematorium and a gathering afterwards at the Rufford Arms.
