Your experience at LJMU
If you are planning to move to Liverpool, whether or not you are here to study, you will find a passionate, exciting, and vibrant city which has earned its place in the hearts of many people and communities from around the world.
It is a city with all the usual challenges of any urban area, but local people are famous for their hospitality and sense of humour.
Liverpool is famous for taking a stand for fairness and equality and is the first major British city to elect a black woman as City Mayor, furthering the city’s reputation for social justice and equality as a political first for the city and black people.
Within the black community you will find a diverse community of champions, historians, business owners and politicians who are ready to support each other and you.
If you are choosing LJMU to study, then we are building an institution and community to make you feel valued and safe.
These resources are here to tell you a little bit about what you can expect, who you can meet and who can help.
The student community
Within LJMU there is various student areas led for sharing ideas, experiences, and networking.
Student communities offered by JMSU provide a platform for you to find other likeminded people at LJMU. They are student-led groups that aim to empower others to make change, help JMSU improve student experience, co-create your academic experience, build a sense of belonging at university and to improve belonging and inclusion.
Communities such as the ethnically diverse students’ community and the international students’ community can be found on JMSU's Student Communities webpage.
JMSU communities have been chosen because these are often groups that feel isolated from the wider student body. Communities create a dedicated space that provides resources and opportunities for these students to connect and participate.
These communities reflect the needs of our students, so if you feel there is a community that you identify with or would benefit from, get in touch with JMSU Student Voice Team.
Other amazing opportunities are offered by JMSU for students to get involved and find their people by staying active, expanding horizons, and giving back.
JMSU focus on creating enriching experiences for students, with over 150 societies and 48 sports clubs, there is truly something for everyone.
They also organise and source some create volunteering opportunities which can help you develop new skills and give back to the local community!
