Research-Informed Teaching

At Liverpool John Moores University, research-informed teaching means our students don't just learn about scientific discoveries but participate energetically in making them. Our 2025-2026 collection of case studies demonstrates how cutting-edge research is woven into students’ experience of learning.

This year’s collection focuses on our world leading School of Biological and Environmental Sciences. From investigating biodiversity responses to climate change to employing advanced genomic techniques and ecological monitoring technologies, our academics are generating important new knowledge while simultaneously training the next generation of life scientists.

Liverpool John Moores University students gain hands-on experience with contemporary research methods, using the latest findings in their field as a platform to learn how to design studies, analyse complex data, and communicate scientific insights. Our distinctive approach produces graduates who are skilled with the foundational principles and the practical realities of modern scientific inquiry.

This selection of research-informed teaching case studies illustrates how our integration of research and teaching enhances student employability, deepens subject mastery, and creates a dynamic learning environment where discovery and education advance together.

We expect to showcase some of these case studies in the Students at the Heart Conference 2026. Our thanks to all the authors and staff and students who contributed to the case studies.
