What to do on the day: spring ceremonies
Collection of tickets and gowns takes place at a different location to the ceremony itself. Below you will find details of the venues for our spring ceremonies (Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 March 2025).
Please ensure you and your guests are familiar with the details for your ceremony.
Before your ceremony
The first thing you need to do on the day of your ceremony is go to the LJMU Sport Building, 85 Brownlow Hill, Liverpool, L3 5AJ.
LJMU Sport Building opening times
Wednesday 26 March: 7.45am to 7pm
Thursday 27 March: 7.45am to 7pm
Friday 28 March: 7.45am to 7pm
Here you will:
- Collect your student seating card and guest tickets.
- Collect and put on your gown.
- Have your official photograph taken.
Allow approximately two hours for this process from arrival and, where possible, plan to have your pictures taken before your ceremony, because the cross-over time between ceremonies can be very busy.
You will then need to make your way from the LJMU Sport Building to your ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral (Anglican), which takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.
The ceremony
We are fortunate to have the beautiful Liverpool Cathedral (Anglican), St James' Mount, Liverpool, L1 7AZ, as the home of our formal graduation ceremonies.
Limited car parking at Liverpool Cathedral (Anglican) for blue badge permit holders only. Access is via Upper Parliament Street (there will be no access to the main entrance via car). You will be able to drop off close to the venue and will be directed to lift access if required or on request.
Arrival time
Doors to Liverpool Cathedral will open one hour before each ceremony. You must allow enough time to pass through security checks before entering.
Entrance to Liverpool Cathedral
Students and guests enter together via the main Liverpool Cathedral entrance.
Your guests can choose where they sit within the main nave, and ushers are available to assist if required.
Once inside the Cathedral, students must be seated 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
Seating card
Your student seating card will tell you where you are seated inside the Liverpool Cathedral for the ceremony. Ushers are on hand to help.
Important information for students
Please keep your seating card with you because you will hand it in as you cross the stage.
Duration
Each ceremony will last approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. We ask that guests please remain in their seats until the stage party and graduands have exited. Staff in the building will advise when and how to exit, following the ceremony.
After your ceremony
Many of our graduates like to celebrate locally – please be aware that restaurants may be very busy, so pre-booking is advised.
Gown return
Please remember to return your gown to the LJMU Sport Building following your ceremony.
Your alumni network
Please make sure that you have activated your account on your online graduate community, LJMU Connect. This is the best way to stay in touch with each other and with us.
