Delayed or reduced Student Finance payment
Most students will receive their student loan in 3 payments across the academic year, as detailed in your payment schedule from the Student Loans Company. You will usually receive your first payment at the start of your course.
If you have not received your payment, or have received less than you were expecting, please check you have completed the following:

Update your university information
If you have completed these steps and it is still unclear why your loan is delayed or reduced, please contact your Student Finance provider. The LJMU Money Advice Team can speak with Student Finance on your behalf if you would prefer. You will need to provide consent and set up a secure password. The Money Advice Team can provide you with information on how to do this.
A delay or reduction in your Student Finance payment can have many implications, including being unable to pay for your student accommodation, purchase essentials or participate in events. If you’re worried about any of these, please contact the Money Advice Team.
Interim funding options
It is important to know why your loan is delayed and how long it will be delayed for. Once you have this information you can consider your interim funding options. These might include:
- asking family or friends for short-term financial help
- using an interest-free bank overdraft
- contacting the Money Advice Team to discuss support available for covering essential food and travel to university
