Detailed information is provided on how to use the flipbook and image zoom tools featured on the Catalogues one, Catalogues two and Ephemera pages.

Catalogues one and two pages

How to use the flipbook tool

The Catalogues one and Catalogues two pages allow you to ‘flip’ through the pages of the digitised exhibition catalogues as though reading the physical book, but with additional digital conveniences. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Turn pages to explore content in real time
You can click or tap the page edges, use on-screen arrows, or swipe on touch devices to move through the digitised material.
  2. Zoom in
The zoom tool (+) lets you enlarge fine details – handwritten text, archival stamps, engravings – for close examination.
  3. Search and navigate content
To jump to specific sections within the ebook, you can use the built-in navigation pane and search facility to view:
    • Thumbnail page previews. These will appear in a pane at the left-hand side and can be accessed by clicking the toggle thumbnails icon.
    • A page number box to navigate directly to a specified page.
    • A keyword search function, indicated by the search icon, will open up a dialogue box into which you can enter words or phrases.

    Hint:
The navigation pane will generate a list of total hits and the corresponding page number(s) which match your keyword search term. Each hit will generate a unique URL which can then be clicked to navigate directly to the identified match.

  4. Full screen mode
Click the full screen icon to toggle to full screen mode and enter a more immersive view without other webpage distractions.
  5. Download, share and print
    • You are able to download full PDFs of each catalogue by clicking the (…) icon. This same button also enables you to turn the sound on or off, enter single page mode, and to navigate directly to either the first or last page.
    • Click the share icon to generate a pop out box with a unique URL for the catalogue page in question, together with share options to social media.
    • Click the printer icon to either save the flip book as a PDF, or to print both individual pages and the document in its entirety.

Ephemera pages

How to use the image zoom tool

The Ephemera pages let you browse rare and fragile historical items. This includes posters, playbills, tickets, and other printed ephemera associated with LMI’s series of exhibitions, in digital form.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Browse by collection
Begin by scrolling through the items or choosing a ‘tagged’ category from the left-hand menu. You can explore visually by looking at the thumbnail images on each page and selecting items that catch your interest, or by using the keyword search facility.
  2. Click an item to view it
Selecting an item opens a high resolution, zoomable image to create a dynamic viewing experience.  This allows you to see the details of the original object, including text, printing styles, paper grade, handwritten annotations, and illustrations. Right-clicking on the image will enable you to view the object on a separate tab or window.
  3. Zoom in for detail
Click either the thumbnail, item title, or ‘View More’ button to activate the zoom function. This is especially useful for reading small print or examining design features in the documents.
  4. Read the catalogue information
Every item of ephemera digitised as part of this collection has been researched to produce an item description together with key details such as date of production, material type, measurements, and object maker/author. These details are viewable immediately below the enlarged image once the zoom function has been activated.
  5. Download or save
The material digitised in this collection is available for download for personal research and for educational purposes, either as a PDF or a JPEG. These options appear as buttons at the top right-hand corner of the of individual image page.
